DESCRIPTION:\nJoin the Kemper Art Museum for this two-part workshop that explores place\, memory\, and identity through guided discussion\, a gallery tour\, and hands-on bookmaking. \n\n\n\nDuring part I\, participants will be introduced to several artist-created artifacts from St. Louis history to consider how material culture can tell stories of lived experience and memorialize a sense of place. During part II\, participants will draw inspiration from the artifacts and discussion to create a handmade book that reflects their own memories\, relationships to place\, or personal histories. Participants are invited to bring a material culture artifact of their own and share its story during part I. No prior bookmaking experience is required. \n\n\n\nFree and open to the public. Please check in at the Welcome Desk upon arriving. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Facilitator: Elizabeth Eikmann\, PhD\, is an expert in St. Louis history\, women’s history\, and the history of photography. She is a teacher\, scholar\, and public historian with experience working with museums\, public libraries\, universities\, and the local tourism industry. She works as the assistant director of curricular innovation and as a lecturer in American Culture Studies at Washington University in St. Louis and is a member of the Missouri Speakers Bureau.\n\n\n\n\nLearn more here.\n\n\n\n\n\n
