The WashU & Slavery Project examines Washington University’s historical ties to slavery and its lasting legacies in St. Louis and beyond. Through interdisciplinary research, student scholarship, archival preservation, digital resources and campus and community engagement, the project explores the university’s early leaders, histories of enslavement and resistance, and the connections between the past and present. Its work aims to foster reflection and advance reparative approaches in partnership with local communities. It is based in the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity & Equity (CRE2).
