Each year, entrepreneurs from St. Louis and around the world compete for Arch Grants’ coveted $75,000 equity-free grants and access to an ecosystem of resources aimed at helping early-stage startups grow and scale. The local nonprofit’s mission is to catalyze economic impact in St. Louis by attracting and retaining high-growth startups through its annual Startup Competition in an effort to “develop the next generation of employers, civic leaders and philanthropists for the St. Louis region.”

Over the years, thousands of students at Washington University in St. Louis School of Law have had access to real-world experience and a jump-start to their career through participation in the Clinical Education Program. Entering its sixth decade, the program remains one of the top reasons students from all over the world apply here.

Team Rainbow Butterfly Rangers was on a mission — to create an assistive technology device that would help Berlin, a bubbly 6-year old with cerebral palsy, carry her plates and toys. Per Berlin’s instructions, the device should be stable, easy to wear and — oh yeah — super cute. “She asked and we delivered,” said Yewon Lee, an occupational therapy student at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, as she demonstrated the team’s prototype, a wearable tray covered in plush butterfly and rainbow fabrics.

Washington University in St. Louis and Deerfield Management, a health-care investment firm, today announced the launch of VeritaScience, a new private R&D collaboration designed to advance the discovery, clinical development and commercialization of promising therapeutic and diagnostic candidates with potential to benefit human health.

In 2020, overwhelmed hospitals and excessive fatalities defined a world grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic. Simultaneously, a new challenge emerged: A growing population struggled to recover fully from COVID-19. Patients coined the term “long COVID” to describe their prolonged health challenges that can linger months after initial coronavirus infection.

Washington University in St. Louis is partnering with the St. Louis Integrated Health Network (IHN) on a five-year $3.8 million grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The grant is part of the CDC’s Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) program.

WashU’s Institute for School Partnership is working with two underperforming elementary schools in St. Louis to develop creative teacher-leaders, and the results show marked improvement in student performance.

Washington University in St. Louis continues to play a vital role in the local economy, providing jobs, supporting local businesses and drawing millions in research dollars to the region. During fiscal year 2023 which concluded on June 30, the university’s direct and indirect contributions to the St. Louis economy totaled $8.8 billion. WashU also supported a total of 54,380 jobs in the region.

Dozens of noted scientists, philanthropists, and university, state and local leaders gathered Thursday, Jan. 18, to celebrate the dedication of one of the world’s largest neuroscience research buildings, a gleaming state-of-the-art facility on the Washington University Medical Campus.

A tradition for more than two decades, the Greater St. Louis Marathon returns April 27 with a new name, a new course, new pre- and post-run events and, for the first time, the National Running Club Championships & Rally. The race also has a new partner: Washington University in St. Louis.
