The Healthy Kids Express– Diabetes Program brings a team of diabetes experts including those from Children’s Hospital and Washington University Physicians to underserved area schools.

Washington University in St. Louis announced today that Sandro Galea, MD, DrPH, one of the world’s most influential public health leaders, will become the inaugural Margaret C. Ryan Dean of the university’s planned School of Public Health, effective Jan. 1.

Washington University on Monday named noted epidemiologist Dr. Sandro Galea as the inaugural head of its planned School of Public Health, effective Jan. 1. The new school, part of the university’s 10-year strategic plan, was announced in October 2022 and is WashU’s first new school in 100 years, officials said.

Local leaders including several from WashU are finding new ways to conserve resources, protect the environment, and help others live their best lives.

“The mid-century Forest Park Avenue location will serve as a support hub to nurture both businesses and individuals as they advance and grow in the St. Louis innovation ecosystem,” university spokeswoman Sue Killenberg McGinn said in a statement.

The Gephardt Institute hosted WashU’s first-ever Municipal Election polling place this month, advancing the institute’s commitment to drive voter participation in every election.

Founded during Washington University’s Sesquicentennial year, the Gerry and Bob Virgil Ethic of Service Award is an annual award recognizing a select group of WashU community members who exemplify a character of service and engagement with the St. Louis region.   

Students in Philanthropy Lab, a WashU Sociology course supported by the Gephardt Institute and The Philanthropy Lab national organization, granted $68,000 to nonprofits in the St. Louis region during an event held at Stix House last week.

WashU IT’s Apprenticeship Program is addressing St. Louis’ dual challenge: supporting non-traditional candidates and fulfilling unmet IT positions, as well as embracing our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.  

Washington University in St. Louis will host the inaugural STL DataFest, an event designed to unite professionals across diverse sectors, including universities, government, businesses and nonprofits, who share a passion for using data to drive positive societal change.
