WashU is proud to present Thursday Nights at the Museum, a weekly series featuring thought-provoking programming, extended museum hours, and activities.

St. Louis is home to an estimated 70,000 Bosnian survivors from the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, many of whom survived the July 1995 genocide in Srebrenica. On the 30th anniversary of this devastating event, join the Srebrenica Remembrance Coalition for a screening of Quo Vadis, Aida? (1 hr, 41 min). Directed by Jasmila Žbanić, this 2020 film depicts the story of Aida, a United Nations translator in the small town of Srebrenica. When the Serbian army takes over the town, her family is among the thousands of citizens seeking shelter in the UN camp. As an insider to the negotiations, Aida has access to crucial information that she must interpret and use to make decisions for her family and community.

Before the main feature, at 6pm, there will be a special screening of the 2023 short drama Sevap/Mitzvah (20 minutes), directed by Sabina Vajrača. This film tells the story of a Muslim woman in Nazi-occupied Bosnia, who risks her life to save her Jewish friends and is in turn saved by them 50 years later.

Presented in collaboration with the Srebrenica Remembrance Coalition.
