The St. Louis Black Repertory Company will present “Chicken & Biscuits,” Douglas Lyons’ crowd-pleasing comedy, in Edison Theatre Jan. 10 to 25 (with previews Jan. 8-9).
A funeral is being held for the pastor patriarch of a New Haven church, but the proceedings are threatened by conflict between his two daughters, the prim Baneatta and the raucous Beverly. Add a cast of competing family members, plus one very anxious Jewish boyfriend, and high jinks ensue. This portrait of a family opened in 2020 at the Queens Theatre in the Park in NYC, but the Broadway run was cut short due to the pandemic.
“Chicken & Biscuits is a flat out funny production that offers a family reunion full of love and happiness to start the near,” said Black Rep founder and producing director Ron Himes, the Henry E. Hampton, Jr. Artist-in-Residence in Arts & Sciences. “Chicken & Biscuits offers something that we all need: a good time.”
