WashU is thrilled to launch WashU Serves, a new year-round volunteer initiative that reflects the university’s “In St. Louis, For St. Louis” commitment to strengthen the region. In partnership with the United Way of Greater St. Louis, WashU Serves offers the faculty, staff, and students more ways to get involved, including Service Saturdays, the annual United Way giving campaign, and a new volunteer portal with simple sign-up tools.
WASHU SERVES portal
The WashU Serves Portal, a partnership with the United Way, is a continually updated database of volunteer needs in the region. The portal includes general opportunities, student-focused opportunities, and “skilled volunteer” opportunities for WashU faculty, staff and students to serve the community. The skilled volunteer opportunities allow individuals to search by work area (e.g., University Facilities, WashU IT, Marketing and Communications) and expertise (e.g., law, medicine, etc.).
Individuals and campus teams can search, register, and track volunteer opportunities year-round. There are options to filter opportunities by cause, geography, skills, or team participation.
WashU Serves is powered by STLVolunteer.org, the United Way of Greater St. Louis’ regional volunteer platform.
If your organization already posts on STLVolunteer.org, your opportunities automatically appear on WashU Serves—no extra steps needed. When WashU students, faculty, or staff sign up, you’ll receive the usual STLVolunteer.org notifications.

Service Saturdays
Service Saturdays offers monthly volunteer events open to all WashU faculty, staff, and students. The program focuses on group-based, high-impact service projects addressing local needs. Opportunities are curated through the United Way and local nonprofit partners. These gatherings provide meaningful ways for the WashU community to contribute to the community outside work hours. You can sign up for individual events on the WashU Serves portal via the links below:

United way campaign and volunteer fair
Washington University in St. Louis is proud to partner with the United Way of Greater St. Louis again this year to help our neighbors in need. Your support through donations or volunteer opportunities not only helps our community, but also brings a sense of purpose, gratitude, and well-being to our own lives.
The “In St. Louis, For St. Louis” Initiative team will be hosting a WashU Volunteer Fair during this year’s campaign on Tuesday, November 4, from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM in Holmes Lounge. This will include tabling by local nonprofits and service groups. Please complete your registration here.
